War Horse Review

Hello everyone! I've come back again, writing another piles of posts! Now, I'm about to give you a movie review!

“War horse” is a war movie that is directed in 2011 by Steven Spielberg; the famous movie director. The movie is based on the famous book titled “War Horse” too, which is written by Michael Morpugo in 1982. The story tells us about a boy who lives in the countryside of Devon named Albert Narracott that is played by Jeremy Irvine. The boy has a miraculous, yet strong stallion named Joey and both of them share a very strong bond. Despite the strong bond with his horse, Albert has a complicated relationship with his family, especially his father. His father is Ted Narracott, which is played by Peter Mullan. Even though this is a war movie, interestingly, the main character is Joey the Horse.

The film sets on the countryside of Devon, England; the story starts with the birth of a foal. Albert Narracott, who is wandering around there, witnesses the birth of the foal. Albert falls in love with the foal in the first glance. As time passes, the foal is purchased by Ted Narracott, which stated that the foal has a great potential. When Ted brings the foal home, Albert is very excited that the horse he likes is on his farm. Several days pass with taming and exercise, Albert makes a strong bond with the foal. He names the foal Joey. But because Narracott’s harvest is a fail, Ted decides to sell Joey to the military because the war is coming. Captain Nicholls (Tom Hiddleston) of the Army steps on to the scene and sees the bond between Albert and Joey. The Captain makes a promise that he will take care of Joey like Albert does. When the Army is about to go, Albert goes to Joey and says that they will be united again despite the war has separated them. But will they….?

“War Horse” is one of the unique films that have many interesting points as Steven makes a war film using an animal’s perspective, which is from Joey the Horse. Actors and actresses give the best performance to make the characters alive, like Jeremy Irvine plays the countryside boy Albert Narracott. Joanna Johnston, who is the costume designer, made the costume and props really detailed and look alike 1918 style, making it fits the setting of the movie. Music, theme and sound effects give an excellent, yet powerful sound quality throughout the movie and it is also fit with the movie settings.

Overall, this is one of the good and the best movies. I highly recommend this to people and animal lovers alike to watch this film. Many war films tell us about the situation of World War I but it is from human perspective. What makes this film unique than the other war films is that we see the situation of World War I using a horse’s perspective. From Joey’s perspective, we can see the situation happened during that time and make us to understand how the war changed everyone. Guaranteed no regrets; this film is worth the watch!
